Mario Bellini a Palermo per Cassina
Over 2000 participants, including architects, curious and passionate about the sector, at the meeting with Mario Bellini, internationally renowned architect and designer, on March 9th in Palermo. An extraordinary eve started with a lectio magistralis conducted by the designer at the Politeama Theater “Giuseppe Garibaldi” and continued at the Scillufo furniture store, with the inauguration of the exhibition dedicated to Bellini’s achievements for Cassina.
An internationally renowned architect and designer, Bellini has traced over the years an authoritative career path, full of successes and supported by important prizes and awards, certainly leaving a clear sign in the reference sector. In fact, eight times, in fact, it has been awarded the prestigious ADI Golden Compass; received international awards including, in 2004, the Gold Medal for the diffusion of design and architecture in the world, conferred by the President of the Italian Republic; he was director of the famous Domus magazine, from 1985 to 1991; in 1987, the Museum of Modern Art in New York dedicated a personal retrospective to him and still today houses 25 of his works in the permanent collection and since 1979, he has been a member of the Scientific Council of the design section for the “Milano Triennale”.
His achievements in architecture in Italy include the Portello district of Fiera Milano, the Tokyo Design Center in Japan, the Verona Forum complex, the Museum of the History of the City of Bologna, and the new Milan Convention Center, the largest convention center in Europe.
The event, in its two different phases, was organized by Cassina with the collaboration of Trj and thanks to the precious support of Scillufo Arredamenti, with the patronage of the Order of Architects and the University of Palermo. The first meeting on the stage of the Politeama Theater was moderated by Professor Vanni Pasca, president of the Design course at the University of Palermo and design historian.
Afterwards, the exhibition “Cassina, a passion called project”, set up at the Scillufo spaces and lasted a week, which included images, videos, objects and furnishing accessories designed by the great Italian architect for Cassina and become design icons contemporary.
For the first time, a furniture store has turned into a small art gallery open to the public, hosting some works usually on display at the Milan Triennale. A great novelty in terms of design, for our city, which welcomed the initiative with interest. A good result also according to the President of the Order of Architects Francesco Miceli, according to which:
“Mario Bellini, a leading player in the field of architecture and design, with his presence in our city has contributed to bringing Palermo into contemporary life, an objective that we have set ourselves as an Order”.
Exhibition “Cassina: a passion called project”
A success beyond all expectations also for us, which makes us increasingly proud of our journey of daily diffusion of culture and beauty.
Thank you so much.
